OUR ROOTS

The purpose of Exeter Community Preschool is to provide a healthful, safe, and engaging environment where children can develop socially, physically, emotionally, and cognitively. We believe early childhood education thrives when children feel safe, supported, and deeply known. Through play-based learning, curiosity and exploration, and strong social-emotional foundations, we nurture positive self-image, independence, and responsibility while preparing children for kindergarten. By fostering strong partnerships between families and teachers and involving parents in the classroom, we create a warm, consistent circle of care that supports each child’s first school experience with joy, confidence, and connection.

WHAT IS A CO-OP PRESCHOOL?

A cooperative preschool (or “co-op”) is a school where parents or caregivers actively participate alongside teachers in the classroom and in the operation of the school. This model creates a strong sense of community, deeper understanding of early childhood development, and meaningful family involvement.

Our Teachers:

  • Lead curriculum and classroom structure

  • Support child development and learning

  • Maintain licensing and safety standards

Our Families:

  • Participate in the classroom on a rotating basis

  • Support school operations and events

  • Contribute to the cooperative community

This partnership is what makes our school thrive.

WHY FAMILIES CHOOSE OUR CO-OP

A Genuine Sense of Community
Families build real connections with one another, and children are surrounded by familiar, trusted adults. Many of these relationships extend well beyond the preschool years.

Transparency in Learning
Parent participation offers insight into how children learn and grow each day, creating trust, understanding, and meaningful continuity between school and home.

More Support in the Classroom
With licensed teachers leading and parents assisting, children benefit from strong adult support throughout the day—especially during play, activities, and transitions.

Shared Pride & Ownership
Families play an active role in shaping the school, fostering a deep sense of belonging, care, and pride in the community they help create.

IMAGINATIVE PLAY

Your child's day begins with free play, where they are able to greet friends, explore the classroom and choose their own activity. This allows them to express themselves and get comfortable in their classroom setting.

CIRCLE TIME

Circle time is where your child will practice the alphabet, numbers, colors, and shapes, as well as learn about the calendar. During this time, each child is given a "job of the day" which teaches responsibility and taking turns. Circle time also includes various songs and hand motions, which keeps them engaged and aids in memorization.

STRUCTURED LESSONS

Each day your child will engage in activities that cultivate creativity and help prepare them for their next step in education. Lessons facilitate process versus product activities, some of which include coloring, painting, cutting, games and a multitude of other fine motor skill activities. Daily, your child is working on name recognition and eventually your child will master writing their name.

OUTDOOR PLAY

During the school day, your child is given the opportunity to get outside with their classmates! Exeter Community Preschool provides multiple toys and different activities to enrich your child's adventurous side. Outdoor activity and fresh air are critical to the healthy and well-rounded development of your child.

ART

At Exeter Community Preschool you'll find we love to let our students have full creative freedom when it comes to their art projects, and believe it's an important part of their development.

FIELD TRIPS

We love to provide our students the opportunity to get outside the classroom and explore our community. These optional excursions are fun for the student with their family, alongside their classmates.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Exeter Community Preschool is a parent cooperative school. Parents are active participants in the running of the school and every day in the classroom, whether it is holding a board position, helping the teachers with prep work, or volunteering in the class.
